Merry Christmas!

Christmas is finally here!  Months of planning, preparation, and crocheting presents  for loved ones (hence the elephant) have all led up to this day.  But among all the business, let us not forget the reason for the season...
Happy Birthday Jesus!

Happy Thanksgiving!

On this wonderful day of Thanksgiving, I'm thankful for lots of things.
I'm thankful that I finally finished this turkey pattern, even if I put it on Etsy a little late.  I'm thankful for all the yummy food I ate, and for the hands that made it.  I'm thankful for all of the people who have looked at and commented on my patterns.  I'm thankful that God gave me the ability and the talent to crochet all of these things so that I can share it with you.  Even though sometimes it doesn't seem like it, there's always something to be thankful for.  What are you thankful for?

Something New...

Spring is finally here and now summer is almost upon us.  And with all these plants beginning to pop up and grow, something new is popping up too.  Soon, I will be selling some patterns on Etsy.  But don't worry.  I will continue to put free patterns on here as well.

Here are some of the things I will eventually put on Etsy:

This beautiful barn owl is the biggest stuffed animal I've crocheted so far.  I made him with his wings out, unlike my other barn owl.  I'm not going to sell the pattern until I find out a way to make his wings open, and close as well. I'm going to sell him as a finished product as soon as I perfect the pattern.

Here is a little hooded warbler I made.  I like him because he has pose-able legs, but I think I may have to change the pattern to make him look more like a warbler.

This peacock took a long time to make, but I still have to perfect the pattern.  His tail turned out a little lumpy and his wings aren't the greatest.

This lion was a little challenging, but I think he turned out OK.  I still have to make a lioness, which shouldn't be too difficult. ; )

I made this horse for my sister's birthday.  He was based on Secretariat.  I still have to figure out how I'm going to make his outfit and his rider.  Though he looks beautiful in this picture, it is not the perfected pattern.

Here is the perfected pattern!  Also availible on my Etsy Shop!

Where's Perry?

There he is!  Here is Perry the platypus.  Like Ezylrb, I finished him a couple months ago, but couldn't find the time to type up his pattern.

Ezylryb the Screech Owl

Can you believe it, I finally did something!  (I've actually had him done for a while, it just took forever to type it up)

As good looking as Ezylryb gets I think he turned out looking- well, like Ezylryb.  But if you are going to make him, you should try to center the face more than I did.

I like Ezylryb because he has so much more character then any of the other owls.

Taking pictures of Ezylryb was a real challenge.  He kept falling out of the tree.  Once he even slid under a bunch of trees and I couldn't reach him.  He was all beat up and soaked!  So it's almost like he really did go through a war!

Assembly:
Put black felt around eyes then put eyes on face.  Embroidery on eyebrows, beak, and the black around face.  Sew on face, belly, ears, tail, and legs.  Sew wings tog then sew them onto sides. (I crocheted 3 black stripes on both wings and tail. You can add that if you want)  With thread, sew scar on eye lids.

Ezylryb the character belongs to Kathryn Lasky, but the pattern belongs to me

Twilight the Great Grey Owl

Here is Twilight!  He's not the reason I called my blog Great Grey Crochet; I just like great grey owls.  Though, he is one of my most favorite characters.

I didn't think it could get much harder then Digger, but I think Twilight is a lot more difficult.  His basic form is very simple, but embroidering his feathers isn't so simple.  So have Fun! ; )

Assembly:
Get ready.  Embroidery circle on face with very dark grey.  Embroidery yellow beak.  Use the black thread and needle to embroidery rings on face. (You my want to use yarn instead of thread, because it looks a little funny)  Embroidery white eye brows and beard.  Place yellow felt around eyes and put them in face.  Embroidery stripes in Head/Body and Wings with very dark grey yarn.  Slst tog wings and sew them onto sides of Head/Body.  Sew legs onto bottom.

I'm not completely satisfied with him and plan to make a better looking Twilight soon.  And I will get pictures of him outside.

Twilight the character belongs to Kathryn Lasky, but the pattern belongs to me.

Digger the Burrowing Owl

I've been very busy lately, but I've managed to make Digger.  His pattern is actually very similar to Soren's pattern, only I didn't give Digger the head piece that Soren has.  The thing that was very difficult about this guy is that he has so many white stripes and spots on his mostly brown feathers.  If you don't like them, you can crochet them in.

Materials:
F hook
Brown yarn
White yarn
Grey yarn
Light green felt
8mm black eyes
White thread and needle (optional)
Plastic needle (optional, but recommended)

Assembly:
This is where it gets tricky. Sew with thread or yarn. On the head/body, (putting the first st in the back) slst or embroidery (I used embroidery) the heart around his face using white yarn. Then embroidery beak just above bottom middle of heart. Cut out green felt and place around eyes. Place black 8mm eyes in head a little above beak.  Embroidery all spots and stripes on Head/Body, Wings, and Tail with white yarn. Sew wings onto sides of Head/Body. Sew end of Tail back to beg of Tail.  Embroidery brown stripes onto legs and tail.  Then sew legs on bottom of body.
